Self-evaluation time. Do you want the results badly enough to work for them? Moment of truth. What’s it REALLY worth to you? Make time, and show up with a smile – even if you have to fake it, you will be one step closer to your goal.
So often, we fail to begin the path that will lead us to accomplishment because we dread the act of getting there. Focus on your goals. Speak them aloud, tell your friends, tell your family, find someone to hold you accountable to your exercise, fitness and health goals, and be accountable to yourself. If you get started, you … Continue reading
While agave nectar is better than say, white sugar since it has trace minerals in it, it is still an added sweetener. I’m not saying that ALL added sugar is bad, but if you are looking to reduce weight it is still something that should be monitored closely and turned down MOST days. Think of it as a sometimes treat or a reward for a big cardio day. Also, Agave nectar is extremely similar to honey, but without the added benefit of allergy tolerance build up from using local honey or the economical benefit of supporting local bee farmers, if you have that option. Keep in mind that a spoonful of honey or agave nectar will metabolize in your body similar to eating about 1 piece of bread. Since wheat disagrees with me, I’ll take the honey over bread, but that would be my about half my portion for the day … Continue reading
There will always be naysayers, regardless of who you are. The greater the gap between you an another, the greater the potential there is for critique. Don’t worry about how others see you; while I understand that perception is important, self-definition will take you much further in life. Just figure out who YOU want YOU to be and take steps toward being the BEST YOU that you can possibly be, every day. As long as you are growing and happy with yourself, don’t dwell on it. Pay attention from critique from those special people in your life that would never steer you wrong, and only set you straight, but depend only on your own inner guide to determine your path. xoxoxoxo
After my REST day (where I decided to move the furniture in my living room and home office, but that’s not important) I was still not feeling 100%… not like I was sick, but more like I was just worn out. Like my muscles were still stiff and sore. Like I needed another day of recovery. So, I chose to have an active recovery day today. Today I had an easy, office work day where I sat at the computer for most of the time, sipped coffee and Shakeology, and caught up on foodie articles. (and if you haven’t seen some of the GMO stuff hitting the headlines, you really should take a look). After rocking my baby to sleep for her nap, I popped in my favorite yoga DVD, Dynamic Flow Yoga by Chalene Johnson. This DVD is part of the Chalean Extreme Upgrade, and if you haven’t scooped it up, you really should. This disc gets so much play, I am going to have to ask for a replacement soon!

A news app that is cleverly disguised as a potential means of help to abused persons. Not many know my FULL history, but I would be happy to share if it meant ‘you’ who needs help, getting the help you need. I can only say I WISH something like this would have been possible and available to me many years ago.
*sigh* Reality TV is not that real. I think I have watched approximately ONE episode of The Biggest Loser – and maybe not even the whole thing; I was quite disgusted, my jaw was hanging open in disbelief and my husband had to turn it off for me. Getting and being healthy and losing weight does not look like this show portrays it to be. Health is a real, private issue that we need SUPPORT to achieve, not shaming. Not ‘weight loss at all costs’ kind of attitude. Just focus on being HEALTHY, people. Don’t starve yourself. Don’t dehydrate yourself. Don’t train for hours and hours a day without providing your body with the high quality nutritional FOOD and SLEEP your body needs to make and keep you healthy. And if your body REALLY needs a break, take a rest day! One day of eating MORE than you expend is not going to be a setback. In fact, it may help you reach your goals.
On Monday, I was able to hit a 195 bpm … Continue reading
So, every month I go to the tractor supply store to get a big bag if dogfood ….it is less expensive than Petsmart and I can by their store brand that is corn free and soy free which makes for happier doggy bellies and skin. Well, also the this store is a sales display of horse figurines and other animals. ..which my 3 year-old daughter is in LOVE with. It’s such a simple thing that makes her happy so I let her choose one. Unfortunately, our dog, Oscar also likes them. She left the poor horse sitting on the floor and in the hustle of getting dinner on the table it was forgotten – by everyone but Oscar!

Well…. If you’re going to have cake, this is carrot cake a good one. An all-time favorite of mine since I was a little girl. I used to beg my mom to make it for my birthday. It has carrots, and fruit and nuts & coconut… Personally, I like to leave off the glaze and frosting – to each his/her own!
**Oh- I sub 1/2 butter and 1/2 olive oil for vegetable oil. My son is allergic to corn, so it makes this a cake he can eat…. and healthier too!
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt (sea or kosher is best, but use 1/2 the measurement for kosher!)
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 3 large eggs
- 2 cups sugar
- 3/4 cup vegetable oil (sub 1/2 butter & 1/2 EVOO)
- 3/4 cup buttermilk (the older the better flavor, just shake it really well or toss it in the blender for a quick pulse!)
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 cups grated carrot
- 1 (8-ounce) can crushed pineapple, drained (in water, preferably or buy whole)
- 1 (3 1/2-ounce) can flaked coconut
- 1 cup chopped … Continue reading
