This sounds about right. It is still hard for me to believe that this time last year I COULD NOT MOVE! Really. My physical therapist was slowly working to release a pinched sciatic nerve and just standing was difficult. She would work to manually MOVE the vertebras in my spinal column. It was so disheartening because I had recently made progress in my weight loss journey only to have it sabotaged by an inability to move. This was not some bad knee or busted ankle, this was right at my CORE. The part of your spine that determines if you can support your weight or even propel your leg forward. I sunk into depression and ate junky food like coke and chips (as well as my healthy food when someone would cook for me) and did not move. (Definitely not the best move for someone with #PCOS or pre #diabetes.)
Because I shared my 21 Day Fix program results yesterday, I felt it was only fair to share my journey results today. The images on the top are June 11, 2013. Day one of Les Mills Combat, after I was released from remedial physical therapy to begin exercising. This journey has involved a lot of dedication, especially as I saw the scale move down and then back UP again. It is only the pictures and the measurements (and my clothes falling off me) that inspires me to keep going. I’m slow, but I’m steady and I’m building muscle – much of which was lost when I pinched my sciatic nerve in March 2013. I’m happy to say I am at that point where I am consistently surprised at what my body can do now. It’s a good place to be!
Weightloss Stats: -6.9% body fat, -23.5 in, -12lbs, 4+ sizes
Up next is the Brazil Butt Lift Summer Slimdown Challenge! I look forward to being swimsuit ready this year and rocking it by the end of the summer. Sometimes I WISH we could *target* the trouble areas, but weight loss and body toning just isn’t like that. Ibut if I could…. that nastiness around the middle where abs are supposed to be would be on the top of my list!
Autumn got me results, I am stronger, I am leaner, I have more balance, and I am happy to be moving in a general forward motion toward my goal health and body.I traded body shape more than anything, because I was surprised to find a larger selection of my swimsuits *fit* when I searched for my *goal* swimsuit for the Brazil Butt Lift Summer Slimdown Challenge. I REALLY look forward to the next challenge, swimsuit season, here I come! Never fear, though Autumn Calabrese‘s workouts rock my world, so I will be revisiting her on a regular basis. She is now my 2nd favorite (the first being Chalene Johnson and ChaLean Extreme. GO HEAVY, OR GO HOME, am I right ladies?!?)

It seems like I have finally figured out how to manage my food without getting sick from insulin surges. I have not wanted to go back on medication, but it seems my body is getting even more sensitive – not only to sugar, but carbs as well. Gotta love getting older! My weakness is baked goods – which are generally a no-no for those of us with insulin resistance, so I have been on a mission to make low-carb baked goods and pancakes. Yesterday’s pancakes were finally a success, and the chocolate raspberry coconut cake with lemon cream topping is *almost* ready!

Did you know that sugar is hidden is just about ALL pre-packaged foods? It’s true; you have to become a sleuth to find the hidden sugar in your food! As a woman with PCOS and insulin resistance, I avoided table sugar for years (except one spoon in my coffee and the occasional holiday goodies, come on!) but couldn’t figure out why I just couldn’t get my symptoms under control, even with working out and hosting fitness and health groups on a regular basis. It’s because sugar – or some form of it- is in almost everything we buy from the grocery store!

Ever start out with big plans only to discover that the universe could really Give a Shit™ about all that? Me too. Almost EVERY DAY. So, to be honest, I have this great schedule all mapped out – I use calendar on my mac and it syncs to google cal and then to my phone and tablet. Scheduling done. Right?! Isn’t that the way it is supposed to work? not so much. It seems that scheduling is so much more than pretty colors on a calendar. You actually have to follow through with the darned scheduling for it to work. Damn it man.

And so my Journey Begins.
I understand that this is a real touchy subject that bit everyone is comfortable talking about in the open. Certainly, there are very few that know how these diseases have affected my life. I tend to be a private person, but I think it is important that people that have been affected by diabetes, pre-diabetes or PCOS reach the understanding that they don’t have to be hindered by it.
Now, let me preface this by saying, I am not a doctor, and I’m not sure that insulin dependent diabetic patients would be able to be free of insulin – but it is possible that the insulin dose may be able to be reduced. Certainly, the lifestyle could be greatly improved. I was never insulin dependent, what I was was insulin resistant. Yup. You read that right. Was. As in past tense.
